PYGYRG Away Weekend June 2023

Click the title of this post for full details.

We are delighted to announce that PYGYRG, after an extended break, is coming together again for an away weekend. A weekend of comradery, conversation and coproduction. Open to all with an interest in, or using, participatory geographies. The ever-popular away weekend is a combination of academic study, dissemination, and chat alongside a chance to connect and relax.

Dates: 9th and 10th June 2023
Location: Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire
Cost: £70

Open to all, whether you are using participatory geographies or hold an interest in them, whether you are a practitioner, independent scholar, PhD researcher or Prof. You don’t have to be a member of the group, we encourage new members and those that have a history with the group to join us to reconnect with one another in the beauty of the Calder Valley.

Sessions are informal and their content is decided by those attending, so please send in your suggestions and offers to organise one. In past years we’ve focused on a range of theoretical issues, challenges, methods for research and activism, institutional and personal issues involved in doing participatory research, etc. We normally revisit/plan the agenda on the Friday night according to what people want out of the weekend.

Rough outline;
Friday afternoon arrival –> Welcome and dinner provided, optional afternoon walk.  Saturday –> breakfast & Lunch provided, a group dinner out (tbc)? Booked working space all day in the hostel, optional afternoon walk. Sunday –> optional mooch around Hebden / making our way home.

The cost for the weekend is £70 which includes some meals (Fri night dinner, Sat breakfast & lunch) and accommodation at IOU Hostel Hebden Bridge. Accommodation is 4 in a shared room. The hostel is walkable to the train station and also has parking.

To book: email pygyrgeo@gmail.com

We have a limited number of bursaries available to support some travel and accommodation costs please email pygygrgeo@gmail.com for more information. Deadline to submit for a bursary is April 10th.

Places are limited so please contact early to avoid disappointment.

Kindest regards, Eveleigh (Chair of PyGyRG).
