AGM Information:

We are seeking to fill three vacancies at the AGM:

Secretary (3 year term)

The Secretary for PyGyRG works with the Chair and Treasurer (and the rest of the committee) to ensure the smooth running of the research group.  In particular, the Secretary arranges and takes the minutes at committee meetings (around 6 meetings, online, per year), manages the PyGyRG mailing list, receives correspondence for the committee and research group from the RGS, and arranges the AGM.  The outgoing secretary, Stephanie Denning, will hold a handover meeting with the new Secretary in September 2021.  It is a requirement of the RGS that the Secretary holds fellowship of the RGS.

Dissertation Prize Co-ordinator

The Dissertation Prize Co-ordinator undertakes their role each summer to advertise the PyGyRG prize for undergraduate dissertations, receive submitted dissertations by email, and then arrange within the PyGyRG committee for dissertations to be assessed (with a PyGyRG marking grid available).  The Dissertation Prize Co-ordinator then makes the final decision on the winner, and first and second runner-up, and contacts the winners to award the prize and arrange for the winners to write short extracts to be featured on the PyGyRG website. The outgoing Dissertation Prize Co-ordinator, Francesca Fois, will hold a handover meeting with the new Dissertation Prize Co-ordinator.

Inclusivity Officer

PyGyRG are looking to expand, we have a new role in the committee in response to our desire to give more attention to inclusivity in the research group. The new role of Inclusivity Officer would be involved in supporting the committee, with an eye to widening participation, inclusivity and diversity within the events we run and the direction the group goes. Role and responsibilities open to be tailored by whomever joins us. We are keen for the Inclusivity Officer to be involved in developing the direction of the post, including the committee co-writing a statement on equality, diversity and inclusivity, and actively engaging with this throughout the year at committee meetings and PyGyRG events. An exciting new role where you will be fully supported by the current committee, applicants are welcome from any career band. Applicants encouraged to apply if you have an interest in the practice of, but not limited to, participatory geographies, inclusivity, widening participation, diversity, challenging marginalisation & exclusionary practice, intersectionality.

In addition to the above positions, we were welcome anyone interested to stand as an Ordinary Member, particularly with a view to standing for other committee positions in the coming year.

This is a friendly research group aligned towards developing and promoting participatory geographies. Being a committee member is a great opportunity to get more involved with the RGS-IBG and the wider geographical discipline. If you are interested in standing for election to the committee at the AGM please send an expression of interest to PyGyRG Secretary Stephanie at stephanie.denning@coventry.ac.uk by 3rd September.  Stephanie is also happy to answer any questions from people interested in joining the committee and standing for the above positions.  We invite interest from anyone with an interest in participatory geographies at any career stage, affiliated or independent scholars.
